Some observations..

Working as a waitress at a restaurant lets you see all different types of couples, and their habits while dining.

Couple # 1
Age: Late 20s
Look: Blond-haired, mainly Australian, average height, slightly overweight.
Clothes: Guy - trousers or nice jeans, collared shirt, gelled hair, enclosed shoes. Girl - Skirt around knee-length, sleeveless top, shoes with a bit of a heel, necklace, earrings.

The guy comes in at around 5pm to reserve a table, you kindly remind him that the restaurant is BYO alcohol.. (they always come in with none otherwise) He thanks you profusely for telling him, smiles, winks and comes back later with his girlfriend, greets you with a knowing smile. This type of couple usually choose to go with the buffet, rather than ordering 'a la carte, they drink white wine, they both seem happy and don't stop smiling all night. Whenever you clear plates from their table they both thank you nicely, smile and when they pay the bill they give you around $2 tip. (note: in Australia, tipping is not expected while eating out. Only foreigners tip, as waitresses have a set wage, and don't expect tips at all.)

Couple # 2
Age: Late 20s to early 30s
Look: Brown-haired, mainly Australian, average height, average weight.
Clothes: Guy - business shirt, trousers, watch, dress shoes. Girl - Dress around calf length, high-heels, bag, lots of makeup.

The guy is on the mobile phone the whole time, making it nearly impossible to take the order, so eventually the girl will signal for you to come over.. they will find out that the restaurant is BYO, so when the guy gets off his phone, he will leave the girl for another 15 minutes to go buy some red wine. She meanwhile is always getting out her lipstick & mirror, every so often she will look over at a waitress and smile. They will order 'a la carte, probably Chicken Makhani and Lamb Rogan Josh, with some plain rice and a plain naan. When the guy eventually is ready to talk to the girl.. she will get up and go to the bathrooms. They never seem to say more than two words to each other all night, he is obsessed with his mobile phone, while she can't stop putting on makeup. At the end of the night he will pay by credit card, and she will already be out the door.

Couple # 3
Age: Any age
Look: The look in their eyes is priceless..!
Clothes: Guy - maybe in a nice shirt and trousers, wears a watch. Girl - Dress or skirt, lots of jewelry, most often a flower clip in her hair.

They don't seem to be quite there... are lost in conversation even when you go and take their order, they will just smile at each other and agree with everything the other says. They will be constantly holding hands, smiling... after the meal they may move their chairs around so they are sitting next to each other on the table.. 20 minutes later their faces will get closer together, they start staring into each others eyes.. (as waitresses we start finding this extremely funny, it's time to go give them some more water, the trick is, you place it in the centre of the table, so between them both is a nice cold bottle of water!) Sometimes they still kiss(!) othertimes they just sit there for ages. One time we even had a guy propose.. imagine that in the middle of a restaurant! (I can tell you all right now, if anyone ever dared do that to me, no matter how much I loved them, I would say 'no way!', I mean c'mon guys you don't do it somewhere were everyone else can see/hear!) They come to pay the bill, sometimes still holding hands, othertimes hugging, they say thank you for the night, can't usually remember what it was they ate anyway, and leave holding hands.
